About Me

Welcome to my blog! I'm so happy you stopped by!

I'm Gennie (or Gen). I'm 26 and a Biomedical Sciences Researcher with a background in biochemistry and molecular biology. That may sound nerdy, but I absolutely love it. I'm even hoping to go back to school to get my PhD.

I'm married to the love of my life. He proposed in September of 2013, and we were married four short months later in January 2014. It was the absolute best day of my life, hands down.

We just moved across the country from Missouri, where I was born, raised, and went to college, to Utah, so it's a little bit of an adjustment. But, we're loving it! We're enjoying the outdoors and go hiking all the time. We love to bike and snowshoe, too, and I'm hoping to learn how to ski this winter.

We have a dog, Honey, that makes every day better. She's adorable and still acts like a puppy, though she's slowing down a little. We also have a cat, Mickey, who is absolutely crazy and acts more like a dog than a cat most times. We're just enjoying married life in this new, beautiful part of the country, and can't wait for the future!

I've had my share of medical issues and am constantly battling chronic pain. I write about that from time to time. If you'd like to read the background behind my struggle with pain, this post and this post will give you an overview. I'd love to talk to any of you in similar situations, as I feel that encouragement and friendship between those that understand and are in a similar situation can be helpful for us all!

Not the best quality picture, but we love it nonetheless! :)

I started this blog as a way to reach out to my friends and family back home. I absolutely love writing (a little weird since I work in the science field), and this seemed like the best way to chronicle our experiences after moving west, share some of my favorite recipes, and connect with other wonderful people! I hope you will follow along, and I promise to try to make my postings worth reading!
If you would like to read more about how this blog started, read this post. Thanks for checking it out!

  1. I totally get it - I was a science/math nerd all growing up (engineering major in college), but I love writing too! I think it's the best of both worlds :)
